Design a Chess Peice

For this Assignment I designed a chess piece along with a signature move. My professor like it so I thought it would be nice to share what it looked like on my blog.

I called it, The Meditation Move: My Chess piece would be in the shop of a Buddha, see below

Meditation Move

From the open position, the Buddha moves two spaces to the center of the board. Once there he remains as a blocker.  Making a continuous square, left, right, up, down while never leaving the center. Buddha can capture any piece next to him. Its power is that of Protector. It does not leave the center, it remains in Meditation mode until it is capture either by king, queen, or rook.

ADAPTATIONS

ADAPTATIONS

Mastery Journal Blog Post Adobe Spark Assignment Emma Kent

Creating my adaptation titled: The Gift. These four weeks have allowed me to better understand how to adapt a story from one genre to another. The chosen story for this assignment was; Gift of the Magi, by O Henry. A famous story of love and sacrifice.

These four weeks have been enlightening in ways that have made me enjoy writing script. This has not been my happy place. Before this class, I’d just finished reading the book. Another Man’s Son and I thought, wow, this would make a great screenplay, and then along comes this adaption class. The book, Another Man’s Son, by Katherine Stone, was an excellent story, and I think it would be a great screenplay if done correctly. If I can be honest, this module has genuinely been the only part of writing, as it relates to scripts, that I have enjoyed.

Our task was to create a story as it related to modern-day events. In my adaptation, I’ve tried to include elements of The Black Life’s Matter movement and Covid-19. My story, “The Gift” centers on the Youngs, who is a mixed-race, military family. James Etta is married to Dylan Young, a Major in the army. They have a son Dallas who is turning 15 Christmas day. James Etta is also pregnant with twins. Dallas and his parents learn that sacrifice can come at a price. The angels are the wise ones and are there to care for their humans. On Christmas eve, the angels and the family are both tested. “The Gift” is a story about receiving blessings big and small. A pair of Wings, a locks bag, a pair of sunglasses, and twin babies, are all part of the story that makes “The Gift” so unique.

Assignments: XENOGRAPHY

We were asked to create a world, which is called, Xenography or World Building for games. This was the world I built:

Emma Kent Worldbuilding CWM610-0

Welcome to the World of Navia. The inhabitants of Navia are Navies. The world of Navia has four hemispheres. North, South, East, and West. The planet’s outer world is dark blue in color, but once inside the actual world, its sun is bright orange. Each section of Navia represents a hemisphere. The outer rings of the planet are orange with round balls that circle their world and act as a force field. The shield only comes down when Navies travel outside of Navia and upon reentry. The entire planet languages consist of signing, grunts and moans; however, they can adjust their vocal patterns to communicate with outsiders.

North Navia, has slot canyons which are incredibly narrow and have very smooth walls, due to erosion from the river and various other weather conditions. These canyons, located between cliffs, have become home to the Northern Navies. Over time the canyons have become homes of layers and levels of bridges that connect one side of the canyons to the other side. The Northern Navies are deaf but extremely sure-footed and flexible.

South Navia is mostly desert. Although most deserts are scorching, South Navia is not. Their deserts stay rather chilly or in moderate temperatures all year long. They also get some rainfall now and then, and they are not always sandy. Most of the land contains miles and miles of hard- baked earth and even bare rocks. This land is inhabited by a nomadic race of people who live below the dunes, underground. Southern Navies provide oil springs which fuel the planet. The Southern Navies have no words, they are mutes from birth. Their skin color is burnt orange, or light or dark browns. There are others who are as bright orange as their sun. Not only are they nomadic, but they are also shapeshifters. Only when they shapeshift can they share words or speak. Those born underground can shift their shapes without worries, however those born above ground cannot hold their shape below ground for long without causing themselves pain.

East Navia is a land of forests. Navia has tons of trees that cover the area, and its terrain tends to be colder or has a more temperate climate. Their forests are sparsely inhabited; however, that doesn’t mean there are no villages or towns. East Navia has tons of Jungles in its low lands. It is virtually impossible to get through without a guide. The Eastern Navies are mostly women who can change their gender to produce children when needed. If the babies are born males, they are 99% blind; if these male babies survive into manhood, they are given a barren female as a mate.

West Navia is a land made up of two types of valleys. These valleys located between mountains and or hills are beautiful. The orange-blue river that runs through it houses the river people. The land dwellers are called Hollows. Most Western Navies are tiny creatures and live in water. They become blind when they touch feet to land. Unless they are land born Navies, then it becomes the opposite. Land born Navies become blind if they travel in water. The box valleys included, on the west side of Navia, are valleys with steep sides, relatively level floors, and very wide.

The Hollows are where the Elders live, these are the oldest inhabitants on the planet. They live inside beautiful hollowed-out caves, which are elaborate designed homes.

Reflection Video

This is my blog concerning my reflection video for my Portfolio I class. In this class we had to create a website, I have never in my life created a website. We were to look at what other students in previous classes did as it related to their website but there were no videos on how to create our website.
I could have, paid someone who is attached to the webpage, (I chose WIX,) to create the pages for me. (Then how would I learn) I could watch the tutorial videos explain, (hmm I don’t see the three dots). I could send an email, as I did, to other students in the class asking them for help (crickets.) How about I call our IT department, those are some smart kids. Nope, “you guys don’t do websites or know how to advise about doing websites,” okay, bummer.
Thankfully, I made friends with three other students in our class, and we talk to each other alot. Thankfully one of these friends gave me some advice on what to do. The only thing about her advice was, I needed to understand where and how to fix my mistakes. She couldn’t help me at the time because she was and I quote, “Looking for dead bodies in the water.” She’s in the Coast Guard and apparently, this happens a lot.
Thank God, I know students from my job as a librarian who are web savvy. Help came in the form of a student from a previous college where I worked. She looked at the site and was able to steer me in the right direction. We talked through the problems, and in the end, she confessed that I taught her something whilst we were working on fixing my problems. Yay ME, smarter then I look. I created what I thought was a pretty decent website for a newbie. I intend to manage it and work on learning how to teach others how to use the site.

One of my main concerns about this class was the books. I would have liked if we were given the option of owning a hard copy of the book, or paper copy. I would have liked to have a copy of the actual book for my library.

Creating my powerpoint and then creating a website, well I am patting myself on the shoulder. However, my other concern, giving and receiving feedback in this class from and to other students should not be our jobs. It appears our professors don’t have a lot of time to physically teach this program. they see to be working on their own scripts, and phd programs, and other jobs. Some of them are ill prepared to give the program 100 percent of their time, which is sad for the amount of money we spend.

Lastly. allowing other inexperienced students to give me feedback in a potorfolio class was not a good experience. It is not a professorl giving me expert adive it is a student just like myself telling me what they have been told to say. Not good.

The feedback should only be given by the professor. I think a good way to handle this would be to allow us to create the power point in the beginning of the sessions. Session one and two, how to create a powerpoint, then create the power point. Session three and four, how to create a website, then create the website.

With the last part of our sessions to work on correcting our mistakes with our websites from the feedback given by the professor, not other students. Please click this link to view my video: https://youtu.be/xBYC-ChP-78
