Reflection Video

This is my blog concerning my reflection video for my Portfolio I class. In this class we had to create a website, I have never in my life created a website. We were to look at what other students in previous classes did as it related to their website but there were no videos on how to create our website.
I could have, paid someone who is attached to the webpage, (I chose WIX,) to create the pages for me. (Then how would I learn) I could watch the tutorial videos explain, (hmm I don’t see the three dots). I could send an email, as I did, to other students in the class asking them for help (crickets.) How about I call our IT department, those are some smart kids. Nope, “you guys don’t do websites or know how to advise about doing websites,” okay, bummer.
Thankfully, I made friends with three other students in our class, and we talk to each other alot. Thankfully one of these friends gave me some advice on what to do. The only thing about her advice was, I needed to understand where and how to fix my mistakes. She couldn’t help me at the time because she was and I quote, “Looking for dead bodies in the water.” She’s in the Coast Guard and apparently, this happens a lot.
Thank God, I know students from my job as a librarian who are web savvy. Help came in the form of a student from a previous college where I worked. She looked at the site and was able to steer me in the right direction. We talked through the problems, and in the end, she confessed that I taught her something whilst we were working on fixing my problems. Yay ME, smarter then I look. I created what I thought was a pretty decent website for a newbie. I intend to manage it and work on learning how to teach others how to use the site.

One of my main concerns about this class was the books. I would have liked if we were given the option of owning a hard copy of the book, or paper copy. I would have liked to have a copy of the actual book for my library.

Creating my powerpoint and then creating a website, well I am patting myself on the shoulder. However, my other concern, giving and receiving feedback in this class from and to other students should not be our jobs. It appears our professors don’t have a lot of time to physically teach this program. they see to be working on their own scripts, and phd programs, and other jobs. Some of them are ill prepared to give the program 100 percent of their time, which is sad for the amount of money we spend.

Lastly. allowing other inexperienced students to give me feedback in a potorfolio class was not a good experience. It is not a professorl giving me expert adive it is a student just like myself telling me what they have been told to say. Not good.

The feedback should only be given by the professor. I think a good way to handle this would be to allow us to create the power point in the beginning of the sessions. Session one and two, how to create a powerpoint, then create the power point. Session three and four, how to create a website, then create the website.

With the last part of our sessions to work on correcting our mistakes with our websites from the feedback given by the professor, not other students. Please click this link to view my video: https://youtu.be/xBYC-ChP-78

Emma Kent my mastery

I'm Ms. Emma, Librarianship is what I do, but its time to do more. It is high time I learn how to conquer my fear of rejection.
